📊 The GCI Calculator

In addition to fully complying with the "GHG inventory®" methodology of the ABC and ADEME, and conforming to ISO 14064, the GHG Protocol and the French regulatory method, the GCI calculator offers numerous advantages:

✅ Production of deliverables tailored to business needs

The GCI calculator offers several types of deliverables to suit the needs of organizations. It provides a simplified analytical report of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, a detailed analytical balance sheet describing the emissions of each of the company's activities, and a comparative balance sheet enabling emissions to be tracked and monitored over time.

✅ Specific emission factors

GCI integrates all emission factors (EFs) from ADEME's Carbone® and Impacts databases, as well as those from the BEIS database (formerly UK DEFRA). EFs from the EcoInvent and Inies databases can also be integrated.

In addition, when entering a Carbon Footprint®, if the user cannot find an equivalent in the emission factor databases already interfaced to the GCI platform, he can use a specific EF from a source he has identified and indicated himself.

✅ GHG inventories at different scales for complex organizations

The GCI calculator can be used to produce carbon footprints at different scales for a single company, making it adaptable to any situation:

👉 A single company or several companies,

👉A single activity or several activities (an activity can correspond to a geographical location in the world, an operational sector (transport, energy etc.), within a company or several companies, etc.).

In this way, a customer can carry out a Bilan Carbone either globally or by activity, and then consolidate the various assessments for the same year.

It is also possible to break down the emissions of each item according to freely chosen analytical criteria within the GHG balance, which makes it possible to obtain an even more detailed level of analysis than that of the activity itself.

A "Supervision" module enables you to monitor all entities and compare their progress.

📝Customized input questionnaires to facilitate data collection

Aware that data collection is one of the most special stages in the process, GCI has simplified it by offering customized data entry questionnaires. Data collection begins with online data entry via a questionnaire specifically adapted to the activity declared by the customer. This questionnaire is divided into headings using an intuitive approach, enabling data to be entered in 7 emission categories, covering all the regulatory Bilan Carbone items.

🎯 Once the data has been entered, the tool automatically allocates GHG emissions to the regulatory headings of the 3 scopes of the Bilan GES, according to the EFs used.

✍️ To meet the specific needs of different organizations, the GCI calculator also offers questionnaires differentiated by type of activity (industry, service, tertiary, events, logistics, real estate, transport, local authorities, etc.).

💪 This approach allows the organization or community to appropriate the templates offered by GCI and customize them to suit their needs. Users are thus able to modify the questionnaires by deleting or adding specific questions and items, in order to create their own tailor-made questionnaires adapted to their sector of activity or organization. This enables them, for example, to accurately quantify greenhouse gas emissions for specific items not directly included in the original questionnaire.

📁 Once the questionnaire template has been customized by the organization, it can be imported automatically (via an Excel file) to replace the default template corresponding to its type of activity. The organization can then share (export) this questionnaire template with other collaborators and/or reuse it in future statements of its organization's carbon footprint.

🌿 Thanks to this flexibility, organizations can obtain more accurate and relevant data about their greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint, helping them to identify areas for improvement and take appropriate action to reduce their environmental impact.

⚙️ Multi-user collaborative services

GCI's collaborative features enable multiple users to work together on the platform. Each customer can create several logins, which can be managed in terms of user rights, thus facilitating collaborative entry of greenhouse gas (GHG) data.

To facilitate communication between employees, it is possible to add comments to each question in the declaration. These comments remain internal and do not appear in the final report. In addition, a history of entries and comments is kept for better traceability.

Each question is also accompanied by a status indicating whether the entry is complete or whether further information is required. This enables several users of the same customer account to collaborate according to their respective skills, and to contribute effectively to the preparation of the carbon footprint.

Thanks to these collaborative features, users can work collectively, share their knowledge and skills, and produce a more accurate and comprehensive carbon footprint.

📉 La Trajectoire SBT

Using the GCI platform, users can establish Science-Based Targets (SBTs). SBTs consist of defining long-term strategies (2035 and 2050) in line with the recommendations of climate science to achieve the Paris Agreement targets of keeping global warming below 2°C, or even 1.5°C.

The greenhouse gas emission reduction trajectories defined within the SBT framework are exportable and visible in the complete PDF report generated by GCI. By making several declarations of their emissions over different years, users can compare actual emissions with the trajectory they have chosen.

This feature enables them to track their progress and ensure that their actions are in line with the objectives set by SBT.

What makes GCI different from other solutions available on the market for carrying out a Bilan Carbone?

There are many carbon footprint solutions on the market, so it's crucial to choose a platform that can meet all the challenges your company is or will be facing. Here's how GCI stands out from the competition 👇

🏅 Improving Carbon Competitiveness®.

Carbon Competitiveness® refers to the ability of an organization or sector to maintain or improve its market competitiveness by reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of its products or services relative to its competitors, while maintaining equivalent quality.

In today's economic landscape, Carbon Competitiveness® has become an essential aspect of corporate strategy, due to the growing demand from customers and prospects for this dimension of environmental sustainability. It offers organizations the opportunity to stand out from their competitors while developing lasting relationships with their customers and suppliers.

🤝 Working with suppliers

Indeed, the GCI platform offers its Decarbo'supply module, enabling users to request specific emission factors (EFs) from their suppliers, guaranteeing a more accurate quantification of their carbon footprint. The EFs provided by suppliers are far more accurate than the "average" emission factors available in current databases.

In addition, if a supplier does not have the EF requested by its customer, the GCI platform offers two options for quantifying this EF:

👉 Emission factor per work unit (production units) :

✅ Suppliers who are familiar with the processes in their value chain can use the GCI tool to carry out a complete assessment of their activity's greenhouse gas emissions on the platform. They can then allocate the resulting emissions to their production units using a specific module.

This module complies with the allocation principles defined by the ISO 14 067 standard, specific to the carbon impact of products. The database of EFs by work unit is automatically enriched and made available to all registered customers, enabling them to improve the accuracy of their calculations.

👉 Composite emission factor :

✅ If a supplier is unable to calculate an emission factor per unit of output, the GCI platform provides its customers with a module for creating "composite" EFs. This module is directly inspired by ADEME's Bilan Produit® tool, and enables customized EFs to be calculated.

Thanks to various interfaced databases, notably ADEME's Base Impacts, users can calculate customized EFs that correspond precisely to the processes and materials used in a product's design.

Using information supplied by suppliers, such as the composition of a material, the energy required for its production and the transport involved in its manufacture, users can calculate the EF of a product themselves using the GCI platform interface, and integrate it into their Bilan Carbone calculations.

This module for creating composite PAs also complies with the allocation principles defined by ISO 14 067.

These two modules thus encourage the creation of a virtuous circle between customers and suppliers, making it possible to define joint reduction trajectories, which are essential for reducing Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions.

Feedback from the Hopscotch Group on its use of the GCI platform

Benoit Desveaux, Co-Founder of Groupe Hopscotch, carried out his carbon assessment with GCI.

🌿 His motivation: "We became aware of the importance of carbon footprinting around fifteen years ago when we started asking ourselves questions about the environmental impact of our business. As we are event organizers, beyond being a consultancy agency, events are by nature big consumers of energy and natural resources."

We chose the GCI platform for its ability to carry out assessments in complete autonomy, and in compliance with current standards and regulations.

GHG inventory® has proved to be an essential tool for Benoit Desveaux, enabling him to assess his company's CSR strategy, respond to calls for tenders that take environmental issues into account, and contribute to the objectives of France's national low-carbon strategy (SNBC), which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and reduce the carbon footprint of French consumption.

We would like to thank Benoit Desveaux for trusting us to carry out his GHG inventory® independently on the GCI platform.
