The need to carry out a carbon assessment
🎬 Interview of Marc BONJOUR, voluntary President of a European cooperation
Can you introduce yourself and your activity?
My name is Marc Bonjour, I am the volunteer president of a European cooperative, the first European low-cost housing cooperative that offers low-carbon housing at very affordable rents. Our first program was built in Berlin. We are currently developing two other programs in Finland in Helsinki and in Latvia in Jelgava.
How long have you been interested in carbon footprinting?
I have been interested in carbon footprinting for 20 years. Since the climate/energy law, 3 years ago now, 2019. I have been working to accelerate the awareness of the imperative need to carry out carbon assessments, it is really the basis of all actions to fight against global warming.
How do communities and companies react when you offer them carbon assessments?
When communities discuss this subject, they have already done a lot in the last 10 years, they have respected the laws. For companies, it's very simple: either they are aware and they do everything that needs to be done in this area because they are large, or they are still small, medium-sized companies and they think that this is only for large companies but not for them. They have other things to do and they have fewer resources.
Why did you choose the GCI platform?
I really chose GCI as the best platform on the market for operational purposes, to be concrete, efficient, to measure, evaluate, improve, and really propose very concrete and efficient areas of improvement, and it is the least expensive on the market so that we can all succeed together in our strategy to reduce our energy footprint.
What advice do you give to entrepreneurs to convince them to initiate the carbon footprint of their company?
To convince an entrepreneur to do his carbon footprint, I would start by telling him to ask his children, if he has any, or his nephews or nieces and see how much this subject has become unavoidable. It is no longer just a matter of respecting laws or regulations but of thinking about the future of our planet.
The entrepreneur really needs to convince himself of this. Then I would like to meet with him to present the remarkable advantages of the GCI method for carrying out the carbon assessment in a simple, economical, effective and concrete way, so that we can then adopt measures to improve the climate situation on the planet.
